SKIPPER
As a young boy I had a dog "Skipper" was his name.
He was a "Heinz" variety but I loved him all the same,
He often vanished for days on end and I would search in vain,
When thinking he was lost forever, home he would come again.
I was so happy and overjoyed after all my heart felt pain.
Where he had been I will never know, just so glad he's back,
We would play together all day until both of us were whacked,
Then off to bed we would go, skipper at my side,
He guarded me from dangers that others were so blind,
He was my pal, I loved him so, he was to me so kind.
On day off to school, leaving skipper curled up by the open fire.
On my return that day, I felt something strange and dire,
The sad look in my mothers eye, and I had to enquire,
What's wrong ? I asked, silent tears rolling to conspire,
It's Skipper , he's gone to heaven, he's a high flier.
He'd sat in the sun on the pavement, near to our front door,
A lorry reversed over him as he lay sleeping on the floor.
His body removed, I had no say, I didn't say goodbye
I felt so low for many a day and many a tear did I cry.
The sorrow now has faided, but my memories you cannot buy.

JAMIE:
Jamie hasn't gone, he is still there
In the living room by his favourite chair
We will always remember his walks and the fun,
Playing with the kids in the summer sun,
He used to love going to places afar,
Riding with both of us in the car
He was a great dog, a friend, a mate
Waiting to greet us at the garden gate
He would run in the garden and find a stone
And sometimes have a good old groan
When he'd had enough he would fall asleep
On the floor by our feet
Memories I have are oh so many
Of our old pal who was better than any
We will meet Jamie again in a better place
Where once more we will see his soft lovely face
His life was not long but it was the best
Now he is having a well earned rest.

FLOYD
We decided to buy a puppy dog of the Golden Retriever breed,
So we visited a well known breeder in order to meet our need,
We watched the puppies and as they grew, one stood out for us,
He was the one we wanted and to our home he would come.
From the beginning he accepted us and watched our every move,
Wherever we moved about the room his eyes on us were glued.
As time went by he proved his worth, in so many different ways,
He loved to swim in the sea and dive beneath the waves.
On rising in the morning, he would bark for his favourite food,
He'd jump around excitedly, he was always in a good mood,
He loved to run and fetch a ball as often as we would throw it,
He'd go and fetch the ball all day, and think nothing of it.
Now he's over twelve years old and has slowed down a bit,
He still can run to fetch the ball, but others beat him to it,
What the heck, he seems to say, I've better things to do,
Like lying in the open doorway, with the warm sun pouring through,
This is the life for me now, let others chase all day,
I'll take life more slowly now and rest whilst the others play.
